All Electrical installations should be periodically inspected and tested whether they are domestic or commercial, because of wear tear and damage that can arise. As an employer they have a duty of care to ensure that the integrity of the installation is in a safe condition. This is a statutory regulation in the “Electricity at Work Regulations 1989” and can be used against an employer in a court of law. The BS 7671 18th Edition Amendment 2 is a guide on how installations should be installed & maintained. Testing methods & procedures are outlined in the IEE Guidance Note 3 book.
Periodic Inspection Reports should be carried out at regular intervals, at times depending on the type of premises. The usual intervals between inspections are as follows:-
The amount of time the inspection takes depends on the type of the installation, labelling of the fuse boards and whether the installation is being used at the time of testing.
Any faults found are given a code of reference
Code 1 & 2 observations/faults will deem the installation to be unsatisfactory and will have to be rectified to bring the report up to a satisfactory condition.
We use the latest NICEIC certification software for the reports which can be printed or emailed to the client. The report comes complete with a full schedule of the circuits tested and schematic drawing.
